[debian-devel:14828] Re: Bug#116516: gs: can't show vertical writing of Japanese OCF

Hi Torsten.

As described in #116516, current gs (6.51-6 here, with some delay)
can't show Japanese Postscript files in vertical writing mode with
Japanese OCF such as gsfonts-wadalab-{symbol,mincho,gothic}.

This is very annoying bug.

You may see the effect of this bug at

  http://www.sat.t.u-tokyo.ac.jp/%7Ehideyuki/Ghostscript/

where article9-1.png is the correct result, but article9-2.png
has several overwritten spot near the beginng of the line.
(In vertical writing mode, the beginning of the line is
 the top of the line.)

6.51-6 has not been yet fixed this problem.

I think GNU gs 6.53 have this patch applied.

Please please apply this patch in your gs package, otherwise
Debian lacks the Japanese support from the official gs package
in woody. (Japanese support with gs-cjk requires non-free
Adobe CMap files, so it can't work within pure Debian.)

If this patch (published from our BTS) can't be applied,
then please let me know. I'll check it.

Thanks.
