<p>Welcome to this year's 1st issue of DWN, the weekly newsletter for the
Debian community.  Mohammed Adn&egrave;ne Trojette summarised all major Debian events
in 2005 in the <a href="$(HOME)/News/weekly/2005/timeline">timeline</a> for
2005.  Philip Charles <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-hurd/2005/10/msg00033.html";>reported</a>
that he has uploaded the latest <a
href="http://ftp.gnuab.org/pub/debian-cd/current/";>CD images</a> for Debian
GNU/Hurd.  Manoj Srivastava <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2005/12/msg00114.html";>announced</a>
that the debian-private list is only private for three years after the general
resolution on the <a href="$(HOME)/vote/2005/vote_002">declassification
procedure</a> has passed.</p>

<p><strong>Reducing the Archive Size.</strong> G&uuml;rkan Seng&uuml;n <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/12/msg00759.html";>\
summarised</a> the effect of different compression
algorithms on the total size of the archive.  Rapha&euml;l Hertzog <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/12/msg00809.html";>\
noticed</a> that the support of <a
href="http://packages.debian.org/unstable/utils/p7zip";>7-zip</a>
archives in <a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Dpkg7Zip";>dpkg</a>
is evaluated in order to reduce Debian's archive
overall size. Steinar H. Gunderson <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/12/msg00760.html";>\
added</a> that CPU power is also a major point to take in account.</p>

<p><strong>Debian Packages via BitTorrent.</strong> George Danchev <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/12/msg00190.html";>mentioned</a>
<a href="http://sianka.free.fr/documentation.html";>apt-torrent</a> in order to
download packages upon an upgrade in parallel.  The packages is composed of an
apt proxy and a BitTorrent package fetcher, i.e. a seeder and a tracker. It
runs as a system daemon.</p>

<p><strong>BitTorrent 経由で Debian パッケージ。</strong>
George Danchev さんは、アップグレードと同時にパッケージをダウンロードする方法として、<a
href="http://sianka.free.fr/documentation.html";>apt-torrent</a> について<a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/12/msg00190.html";>話しました</a>。
このパッケージは、apt proxy と BitTorrent パッケージ fetcher、
すなわち seeder と tracker から成り立っていて、システムデーモンとして動作します。</p>

<p><strong>Report from FOSS.IN 2005.</strong> Kartik Mistry <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/12/msg00538.html";>reported</a>
about this year's <a href="http://foss.in/2005/";>FOSS.IN</a> conference that
was formerly known as <a href="http://linux-bangalore.org/";>Linux
Bangalore</a> and where two Debian related talks were held.  Jaldhar Vyas also
<a href="http://www.braincells.com/debian/index.cgi/search/item=121";>\
reported</a> about meetings with other Indian Debian developers he met during
the conference.</p>

<p><strong>FOSS.IN 2005 からのレポート。</strong>
