Kaffe は、GPL で配布されているオープンソースの Java VM (Java の実行環
境) です。Javaに対する互換性が非常に高く、同じくオープンソースのアプリ
ケーションサーバである tomcat(3.2.2)を動かすことも可能です。また、Java
Compiler に kjc が付属していますが、jacks という Java コンパイラのテス
トケースによると kjc はバグの数が SUN の Javac より少ないという話です。

この kaffe-jp は、オリジナルの Kaffe の 2001/6/20 の snapshot(7/16現在
のものと内容は同じ) を元に国際化と日本語化を施したものです。

swing を用いたアプリケーションは動きませんが(JDK1.1 用のswing を取って
くれば動くものもあるけど)、それ以外のものはそこそこ動くと思います
(swing とセキュリティ関係以外は、JDK1.2相当となっています)。

 Description: A JVM to run Java bytecode
  This is Kaffe, a virtual machine designed to execute Java bytecode.
  It performs "just-in-time" code conversion from the abstract code to
  the host machine's native code.  This will ultimately allow execution of
  Java code at the same speed as standard compiled code but while maintaining
  the advantages and flexibility of code independence.
  Especially, this packages is I18Nd and Japanized.
