Debian パッケージになっているプログラムを実行するためにこのパッケージ
をインストールする必要はありません。というのは Debian GNU/Linux は
termcap ではなく terminfo を用いているからです。あるプログラムが
...: can't load library 'libtermcap.so.2' などのエラーメッセージを吐い
て実行できない、または /etc/termcap が読めないという文句をいう場合には
このパッケージが必要です。

termcap-compat パッケージはプログラムをコンパイルする際に使うことを意

られるなら、代わりに ncurses の termcap エミュレーション機能を使ってく
