uucp パッケージのドキュメントでは省かれていた，
Debian 標準の smail の UUCP設定が使えるようになりました．
UUCP に興味のある人は見てください．

# RimnetのUUCPや草の根UUCPは，ニュースとメール主体の人にはうってつけです．
# 通信時間は nntp と比較すると劇的に減少します．

UUCP用 smail の設定自体は，/usr/sbin/smailconfig だけで設定できました．
sendmail のように 設定ファイルを直接編集する必要がありません．
よく出来ています．
それでも，英語メッセージの意味を取り違えてはまったので，
smailconfig の出力に 日本語のコメントをつけてみました．

注意する点は，自ホスト名の設定を間違えないこと．
特に，uucp ノード名と，ホスト名が異なる場合に注意．
メールは，`UUCPノード名.rim.or.jp` で配送されてくる．
`ホスト名.UUCPノード名.rim.or.jp` だけしか設定しないでおくと，
自分宛のメールだと認識せず，再度外部へ再送してしまいます．

UUCP の環境：
  プロバイダドメイン名:	rim.or.jp
  hostname: momiji
  nodename: soliton	UUCP システム名．RIM NET からもらったもの
			  /etc/uucp/config の
			  nodename soliton
			  に設定
  domainname: soliton.rim.or.jp	   正式なドメイン名
  UUCPの配送先名: rim	           UUCP 接続先の名前．
			           /etc/uucp/sys の system で設定

UUCP 用 smail の設定

/usr/sbin/smailconfig を実行

(2) UUCP to smarthost (upstream site):
    # メールシステムの選択．UUCPを選択
Enter value (default=`1', `x' to restart): 2 

What is the `visible' mail name of your system ?
This will appear on From: lines of outgoing messages.
    # 出したメールアドレスの @以下の部分の設定
Enter value (default=`momiji.soliton.rim.or.jp', `x' to restart): soliton.rim.or.jp

Does this system have any other names which may appear on incoming
mail messages, apart from the visible name above (soliton.rim.or.jp)
and the system's hostname (momiji.soliton.rim.or.jp) ?
If so enter them here, separated with spaces or commas.  If there are
none, say `none'.
    # 自ホスト宛メールとみなす @以下の ドメイン名を設定する．
    # ドメイン名(UUCPノード名)とホスト名が違う場合は

You have to tell me where to send email bound for remote systems, by telling
me the UUCP name of your smarthost (probably your service provider).
    # UUCP接続先の設定． uucp のシステム名で指定する．

Mail for the `postmaster' and `root' accounts is usually redirected
to one or more user accounts, of the actual system administrators.
By default, I'll set things up so that mail for `postmaster' and for
various system accounts is redirected to `root', and mail for `root'
is redirected to a real user.  This can be changed by editing /etc/aliases.
    # postmaster,root宛のメールを転送するユーザー名の設定
Enter value (`x' to restart): mkojima

The following configuration has been entered:

Mail generated on this system will have `soliton.rim.or.jp' used
as the host part (after the @) in the From: field and similar places.
    # このシステムのメールは，Message-ID: フィールド等の @ より後の
    # ホストの部分が `soliton.rim.or.jp` となっている．

Message-ID's, Received lines, etc. will use the system's canonical
hostname, which is currently set to momiji.soliton.rim.or.jp.
    # Message-IDや, Received 行では，momiji.soliton.rim.or.jp が
    # システム名として使われる．

The following hostname(s) will be recognised as referring to this system:
momiji.soliton.rim.or.jp, soliton.rim.or.jp, momiji.soliton.rim.or.jp, soliton.rim.or.jp
    # 以下のホスト名については，このシステムとして認識される．
    # momiji.soliton.rim.or.jp, soliton.rim.or.jp

Mail for postmaster, root, etc. will be sent to mkojima.
    # postmaster, root 宛の メールは，mkojima に再送する．

Local mail is delivered.
    # ローカルメールは配送する．

Outbound remote mail is transmitted via batched UUCP to
rim for routing and delivery.
    # 外部向けの 遠隔メールは，配送のため rim 宛に UUCPのバッチ処理で転送する．
