長谷川＠千葉市です。

Xのセットアップが固まる件で以前質問を出させていただきました。
お返事が遅れましてご回答いただいた方々、申し訳ないです。

あれから試行錯誤して、XF86Setupが固まった後にスイッチを強制的
にオフにしたので起動時にリペア状態となってしまい、結局再インス
トールしました。

それからaptを使用してdselectによりソフトウェアをインストール
しています。

その後Xf86Setupを再度行い、以下のような設定を行いました。


１．SuperProbeコマンドでビデオカード検出
First video: Super-VGA	
Chipset: ATI 264GT-B (3D Rage II or II+) (Port Probed)	
Memory:  2048 Kbytes	
RAMDAC:  ATI Mach64 integrated 15/16/24/32-bit DAC w/clock
         ((with 6-bit wide lookup tables  (or in 6-bit mode))
         (programmable for 6/8-bit wide lookup tables)
Attached graphics coprocessor:
Chipset: ATI Mach64
Memory:  2048 Kbytes


２．XF86Setupコマンド実行

３．マウス
    protocol：PS/2
    device：/dev/psaux

４．キーボード
    model：Japanese106key
    layout： Japanese
    Options：Swap Control Caps Lock

５．Card    
    この時、カード未選択の状態で以下のメッセージがリストの下部に表示
   The Selected Server is not installed!
   Please abort,install the SVGA server as
   /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_SVGA and run this program again.

  １．のSuperprobeコマンドでの結果を考えてカードでMach64を選択すると
  以下のメッセージがリストの下部に表示
  The Server required by your card not installed!
  Please abort,install the Mach64 server as
 /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_Mach64 and run this program again.

これらのメッセージでCardがネックとなってXの設定が上手く行きそうにない
（SVGAかMach64サーバーをインストールする必要がある）のは分かるがMach64
 をインストールするとXF86Setup起動時にそのまま固まってしまう
（debianをインストールした直後に試行したが同じだった。この時点では
  debianのインストール2回目でサーバーはxerver-freetype-vga16のみ）。

結局、Cardを未設定で（カードの詳細設定でサーバーでVGA16を指定した以外は
Probeされると思い）セットアップを続行してみる。


６．ディスプレイ設定
Standard VGA, 640×480 @ 60Hz を選択
ちなみに、手持ちのディスプレイのマニュアルでは
 Horizonal:30to68KHz
 Vertical:50to120Hz

  
７．モード選択
640×480、8bppを選択


８．Other
デフォルトのまま


９．/etc/X11/XF86Configヘ設定保存して終了

これでstartxすると、正常に起動せず添付した
ファイルのような状態になります（添付の
startx.txt）。


・Superprobeで検出した結果を元に
  Cardのところで同設定をすれば良いか

・またXF86Setupでの設定がダメなら
  /etc/X11/XF86Configでどの当たりに
  編集を加えれば良いか（
