It sounds like you input hiragana over XIM (probably kinput2). Please
make sure you are using jvim with built-in canna function. To enable
built-in canna, put
set fepctrl
set fepkey=\@
into your .jvimrc file (hit Ctrl-Space in insert mode to start canna).
