大坪です。お世話になります。
追加質問です。

sources.listにbackportsのURLを追加して、updateして、
# aptitude install sun-java6-jdk 
としたところ、

以下の新規パッケージがインストールされます:
  gcc-3.3-base gsfonts-x11 libltdl3 libstdc++5 odbcinst1debian1 sun-java6-bin sun-java6-jdk
  sun-java6-jre unixodbc

となり、これをインストールしたところ、途中で、

gcc-3.3-base (3.3.6-15) を設定しています ...
libstdc++5 (3.3.6-15) を設定しています ...

gsfonts-x11 (0.20) を設定しています ...
warning: /usr/lib/X11/fonts/Type1 does not exist or is not a directory
warning: /usr/lib/X11/fonts/Type1 does not exist or is not a directory
warning: /usr/lib/X11/fonts/Type1 does not exist or is not a directory

となりました。
そして、このjavacを使って、GUIのjavaプログラムをコンパイルして、このclassファイルを起動したところ、日本語の文字が、四角となり、正しく表示されません。これは、上記のwarningと関係があるのでしょうか。

因みに、その後
# aptitude install sun-java5-jdk
として、java5をインストールし、このjava5でコンパイルすると、日本語は正しく表示されました。
