皆さんコメントありがとうございました。
香田さんのコメントを参考に下記のように変更したところ、
kochi(ttf-kochi-gothic ttf-kochi-mincho)無しで、
whizzytex(adviで?)で日本語が表示されました。
pdfのプレビューではなくdviという表現が正しい様ですね。
失礼しました。
sazanamiを使ったのはvlゴシックは明朝体が無いように見えたためです。
#vlゴシックでも表示されたのですが。
#どっちみち低解像度環境だったので見分けはつきませんでした。
