[debian-users:57735] debian 8.1のlogin画面が表示されません

お世話になります。

VMware Workstation 10.0.7上でdebian 8.1を/etc/default/grubを以下の設定にしています。
(Linux sv-server 3.16.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.16.7-ckt11-1 (2015-05-24) x86_64 GNU/Linux)

画面サイズは1280×1024でログが流れていくのですがlogin画面が表示されません。
update-grubも起動してからrebootで再起動して確認しています。
debian 7.8では同じ設定で問題ありませんでした。

ググっても手詰まりなので、よろしくお願いします。
