Can you try to assign an IP address by ipp, http or lpd ? Cups-browsed or avahi-daemon might causes a problem.

Hello,
The packaged driver includes only printer driver. You need to install a scanner driver. You printer may be DCP-J526N, not 562N. The driver can be downloaded from https://support.brother.co.jp/j/b/downloadend.aspx?c=jp&lang=ja&prod... The site also has a printer driver. I recommend you to use this one.
Good luck ! Tomoo

Hi all,
Having problem with the printer, Brother DCP-j562N
Bookworm, CUPS 2.4.2
The printer is connected to the network. Now, after the fresh install of bookworm, I was able to install the printer with CUPS, "Brother DCP-J562N, driverless, cups-filters 1.28.17". and it worked.
However after I connect the the printer via USB in order to use its scanner, for some reason it lost the connection to the printer saying "unable to locate the printer". Now, i tried to install the printer as local USB connected, the CUPS list the Brother printer and installs it but I cannot print the document at all.
So I deleted listed printers( both USB connected local and network printer no longer finds Brother printer...
Does anybody know any method to add the Brother printer somehow?
Appreciate your help.

Thank you for your suggestion.
However my printer is in fact, Brother DCP-J562N, 8 year or older printer.
I did install the scanner driver I DLed from Brother's site and it is working fine. The problem is the printer. Brother only offers 32-bit driver and have not updated for couple of years.
I had no problem at all until Buster.
Thing is that I could see Brother printed listed under the network printer before but now it is not even listed when I try to install under CUP.
If I connect printer with USB, the name appears under the local printer but I don't get it work.

I got it work as a network connected printer now. For some reason the IP of the printer was set same as the host PC, that was the reason why it did not see on the network, As soon as I changed the printer IP, the CUPS lists available network printer and I was able to add it and got it work properly.
HOWEVER, I still have a problem to make it work as locally connected printer if I connect it via USB.
