カーネルが古いかもとの事でこちらの
Linuxカーネル5.15をDebian11にインストールする方法
https://dkswor.com/archives/1917/

を5.16.16に読み替えてカーネルをmakeして再起動した所、無事4Kで表示されました!
途中sudo make bzImageでエラーを吐きましたがsudo make modules_installまで進めて
もう一度sudo make bzImageをしてsudo make installと打ったらうまく行きました。

ただdebianに5.16が来るまでカーネルのパッケージが新しくなるたびに毎回makeし直すのは骨が折れそうです。

やはりlinuxは少し枯れたハードの方があまり、こけなくて良いのかも、知れませんね。

ともあれ無事に解決しました。
