Hi.
It's sad, but GPL gs 6.53 and AFPL gs does not solve this problem.
I checked it on my sid system:
Package: gs_6.53-2
Package: gs-aladdin_7.03-2
Debian Release: 3.0
Kernel Version: Linux danyasun 2.2.19 #6 Sun Jul 1 17:57:55 JST 2001 i686 unknown
Versions of the packages gs depends on:
ii gs-common 0.3.2 Common files for different Ghostscript relea
ii libc6 2.2.5-3 GNU C Library: Shared libraries and Timezone
ii libgimpprint1 4.2.0-4 library necessary to use gimp-print programs
ii libpaperg 1.1.7 Library for handling paper characteristics
ii libpng2 1.0.12-3 PNG library - runtime
ii xlibs 4.1.0-14 X Window System client libraries
ii zlib1g 1.1.4-1 compression library - runtime
As far as checking the original tar archive in the Debian
package source, the patch against gxchar.c (written by
Hideyuki Suzuki) is not applied to both of gs_6.53 and
gs-aladdin_7.03.
I send a question to gs-devel ML and gs-cjk ML (Hideyuki subscribes
gs-cjk), but anyway I'd like to request to merge the patch into
the Debian pacakge.
I'll send another (new) bug report for gs-aladdin, and
will reopen #116516 maybe a few days later.
The patch against gs_6.53-2 is attached in this mail.

Unfortunately, gs 6.53 does not fix the problem, as said above.

btw, the web page
http://www.sat.t.u-tokyo.ac.jp/~hideyuki/Ghostscript/article9.html
is written in English.

If you need it, then I'll submit it to the BTS.

I'll submit them to the BTS also if you need them.
