というように方針変更して、佐野さんが記事をかきやすくしてみました。^^;
#もちろん、あんまり Joey Hess を困らせたくはないので、原則締切は月曜夜です。
#というのはあっち時間のMonday midnght が absolute deadline らしいんで。

よろしくお願いします。

                    Debian JP Weekly 10/12/99 - 10/17/1999

This is the recent news [10/12/1999 - 10/17/1999] from Debian JP
Project. The prefix below such as debian-users, debian-devel,
debian-doc and jp-policy, jp-qa indicates the ML on the debian.or.jp
   respectively.

   JP Merge Operation (continued)

JP QA have just started to account for the rest JP packages under the
leadership of Fumitoshi UKAI, the Debian JP project leader. jp-qa ML
is ready for the work. The reported items are:
     * QVWM, the window manager which has windows95 look and feel, has
discrepancy between English license and Japanese one.
     * NMU intent for ish by Masayuki Hatta.
     * prn, PS tools for ja_JP.EUC text (need kcc). lintian error: W: prn
       source: ancient-standards-version 2.1.1.0

jp-qa ML web archive will be prepared soon.

Discussion about the treatment of Emacs20 Japanization patch was
[4]raised by ISHIKAWA Mutsumi. Though Emacs20 can use Japanese
characters well, we have some 'unofficial' JP patches unfortunately
rejected by FSF. These patches are written mainly for Japanese input
methods (canna, Wnn, etc.). These are originally the functions of
Mule, the multi-lingual version of Emacs19, and have not been merged
into Emacs20. From this historical reason, many people in Japan need
these patches to use Emacs20 with their accustomed environment.

   Taketoshi Sano reports:
     * Japanese po file for boot-floppies[5] was put into CVS by Keita
       Maehara.
     * [6]The recent situation about new-maintainer discussion at
       debian-devel@lists.debian.org.
     * man-db-ja have been [7]successfully merged into man-db.

The popularity contest of Debian JP is held at [8]18th, Oct 1999.

Discussion on the ML at Debian.or.jp

Questions and answers about [9]Japanese code treatment with ncurses.
We have three main character sets for Japanese language, EUC, JIS and
SJIS. EUC code is generally used on UNIX machine, but sometimes we are
confused what character to use. In email, for example, we are using
JIS because it is 7-bit clean.

The procedure for IP Masquerade [10]setting was posted to
debian-users. He reported he could enjoy diablo by connecting
battle.net at last :) He also indicated the errata of JF
documentation, which s the translation of LDP. The translator of IP
masquerade Mini HOWTO responded that he would contact to the upstream
   LDP author.

SKK is the famous and enthusiastic Japanese input method (Yes, we
sometimes have strong feeling about the way to input mother tongue!).
The sales points of SKK10 were [11]announced by Takao KAWAMURA, one of
the Debian developers. He said no JP Linux distribution contains such
   a latest function of SKK10.

The [12]test report of software from IBM, called 'King of Translation'
was posted to -users. It is usable from command line and from XEmacs,
but not from the browser. The installation report was also
   [13]available (Japanese).
