mex 続報です。環境変数 LANG と mex の日本語コードについて調べてみました。
LANG=C の場合、

$ export LANG=C
$ mex
can't read "B": no such variable
    while executing
"set n "㍑㌢
    蜴諷d 胙闕 蜴
∫f 獷n 十 ゐ鱚罔粤聲癆荅} 贒續 n "受信簿($pref(defaultpath))"}"
    (procedure "settitle" line 5)
    invoked from within

という具合になります。また、同じく LANG=C のときで ShiftJIS 版 mex を使うと

$ nkf -s mex >mex_sjis
$ chmod +x mex_sjis
$ ./mex_sjis
wrong # args: should be "proc name args body"
    while executing
"proc getcontent {{location curselection}} {
	global nowfolder pref

という具合になります。euc 版は起動しますが文字化けします。


なお、
LANG=ja_JP.ujis
LANG=ja_JP.jis
LANG=ja_JP.sjis
のどの場合でも、JIS版(オリジナル)/SJIS版/EUC版すべての mex が
正しく動いています。

それから、mex は、mh の設定がすでにできているものと仮定しています。
