[debian-users:31246] smbpasswd へパスワードの追加

アスカルです。お世話になっています。
rootでsmbpasswdで
New SMB password:
Retype new SMB password:
でパスワードを入力したら：
Failed to find entry for user root
Failed to modify password entry for user rootと言うメッセージが出ています。
以前こんな問題はなかった気がします。
どなたか教えていただけますか？
