長文で失礼します。
まず、最初に入れたレガシーフリー PCが sargeへのアップ中にミスをして
再び入れ直したため元メールが消えスレッドがおかしくなってること
をお詫び申し上げます。
従って再インストールしたのでその際にわかったことを含め 改良版を書かせて頂きました。
しかし まだまだミスが多く 安定したインストール状態までには至ってませんので時間がかかります。
皆様のご訂正が必要と思います。
1.
まず woodyのCDからいんすとーるします。
ただし、X関係は入れません、つまりtaskselもdselectも動かしません
(ここは2.4にしてからでないと USBデバイスが認識されないので危ないと思い回避しました)
2.sorces.lstを書き換えて
apt-get update
をしてそれから
カーネルを2.4にします(2.4になればUSBデバイスが仕えますので)。

apt-get install gnome-bin gnome-core gnome-panel gnome-control-center gnome-applets gnome-common gnome-utils gnome-help gnome-help-data gnome-users-guide sawfish-gnome gnome-session gmc
をします
5,taskselを動かして、Xwindowsとdesktopとをいれます。
(これ最初からtaskselではうまく行かなかったので 4.で露払いをかけました、この作業も不要かもしれません )
ただし /dev/input/mice を選択してます。

この段階では書き直す必要はないのですが、結果的には以下となります。
多分 識者の方々がみられると ご意見があろうかと存じます。

6.modconfして
/drovers/inputのところ（これ必要のようです）
/drivers／usbの キーボードとマウスとusb-unchi
をいれます。
ここまで来たら ほっとします。
Xは入りました。
7,日本語のために

8.liloは制御が難しいため grubの導入をします。

コンソールで sudo -s してるーとになりました。(２chにありました)

そして カーネルは２。４になってるので 以下のように /mnt/boot/grub/menu.lstを編集。
