I suppose gnome might miss the current locale. Because,
------------------------------
tom-lin@nomura:~$ locale
LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE=C
LC_NUMERIC="ja_JP.UTF-8"
LC_TIME="ja_JP.UTF-8"
LC_COLLATE=C
LC_MONETARY="ja_JP.UTF-8"
LC_MESSAGES="ja_JP.UTF-8"
LC_PAPER="ja_JP.UTF-8"
LC_NAME="ja_JP.UTF-8"
LC_ADDRESS="ja_JP.UTF-8"
LC_TELEPHONE="ja_JP.UTF-8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="ja_JP.UTF-8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="ja_JP.UTF-8"
LC_ALL=
-----------------------------------

However, gnome-terminal->Terminal->Character code->current locale

It is ANSI_X3.4-1968.

Where does gnome aware current locale ?
Can I compulsory set the locale as ja_JP.UTF-8 in gnome session ?

Regards,
Tomoo Nomura

PS. The system is amd64.
