[debian-users:52970] Midnight Commanderからアイコンファイルを開くことが出来ない件

こんにちわ。渡辺と申します。

先日来 Midnight Commander (MC) に浸りきっておりまして、
高機能なファイラーと感激しております。
ところがただ一つ、解せない箇所がありまして、
これは Debian 固有の問題ではないのかもしれませんが、
もし MC を使っておられる方で、
同様の問題に遭遇された方がおられましたら、
どのように解決されたのか、あるいはたいした問題ではないので、
そのままにしている、とか、ご教示願えれば幸いです。

前置きが長くなりましたが、問題は、
アイコンファイルのうち、拡張子が ico の形式のものは、
MC のファイルリストにおいて、当該ファイルを選択し、
Enter キーを押した場合、期待する挙動は、
ファイルに関連付けされた画像ビューワ等が立ち上がり、
画像が表示されることなのですが、これが表示されません。

パーミッションが 755 のファイルの場合は、

$ ./GarageBand.ico  ( <---- Enterキー押下によって発行されたコマンド）
bash: ./GarageBand.ico: cannot execute binary file

パーミッションを 644 にすると、
全く反応がありません。

（パーミッションガ 755 の gif、jpeg などは問題なく開けますので、
パーミッションの問題ではないように思います）

ファイルの関連づけの変更には Xfe File Manager を使っております。
（ファイルの関連付けに関する設定ファイルが何なのか、どこにあるのか、
全く知りません）

テストしたビューワ等は次の通りです。
xfileimage  X File Image Version 1.04
gthumb      gThumb 2.10.8
eog         Eye of GNOME 2.22.3
gimp        GIMP 2.4.7
display     Image Magick 6.3.7

Miscellaneous Keys
Here are some keys which don't fall into any of the other categories:

Enter  
if there is some text in the command line (the one at the bottom
of the panels), then that command is executed. If  there  is  no
text  in  the  command  line then if the selection bar is over a
directory the Midnight Commander does a chdir(2) to the selected
directory  and  reloads  the  information  on  the panel; if the
selection is an executable file then it is executed. Finally, if
the  extension  of  the  selected  file  name matches one of the
extensions in the extensions file then the corresponding command
is executed.
