<p><strong>SPI 理事選挙</strong>。
Wichert Akkerman さんは、Software in the Public Interest (SPI) が理事会の
三名の欠員を埋める選挙を開催すると<a
href="http://lists.spi-inc.org/pipermail/spi-announce/2003/000058.html";>\
発表しました</a>。<a href="http://www.spi-inc.org/";>SPI</a> は、Debian
やその他のフリーソフトウェアプロジェクトを、商標や著作権の保持、寄付の受け付け
などの法的な問題で支援する非営利組織です。立候補は 11 月 6 日で締め切られ、
投票は 11 月 7 日から 21 日にかけて行われる予定です。</p>
<p><strong>4.1.5 節の憲章改正</strong>。
Manoj Srivastava さんは、憲章改正の二度目の<a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-vote-0310/msg00098.html";>\
投票要請</a>を投稿しました。三つの<a
href="$(HOME)/vote/2003/vote_0003">提案</a>は全て、投票開始から 72 時間以内に
定足数を満たしました。これまでに 124 の有効投票がありました。これは、
今年の DPL 選より低い投票率です (去年の DPL 選に次ぐ低さです)。
また Romain Francoise さんは、いくつかの投票が拒否される原因となっていた <a
href="http://arch.debian.org/arch/private/srivasta/archive-2003/devotee/";>DEbian
VOTE Engine</a> (Devotee) の大きなバグを突き止めました。</p>
<p><strong>Linux Brochure プロジェクト</strong>。
Martin Michlmayr さんは、<a href="http://lbproject.sourceforge.net/";>Linux Brochure
プロジェクト</a>からの<a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-events-eu-0310/msg00031.html";>メール</a>を
転送しました。このプロジェクトは、主要な Linux の情報を、ソースが <a
href="http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html";>GNU GPL</a> の下で公開された
定型のパンフレットに記録するものです。今のところ、二つのバージョンのパンフレットが
あります。"Linus" バージョン - Linus さんの有名な発言を取りあげたものと、
VLUG バージョン - Victoria Linux Users Group (VLUG) の公式パンフレットを
アレンジしたものです。Frank Lichtenheld さんは、それを<a

<p><strong>Debian パッケージの作り方</strong>。
Joe 'Zonker' Brockmeier さんは、Debian パッケージの作り方を<a
href="http://linuxdevices.com/articles/AT8047723203.html";>説明しました</a>。
彼の記事では、パッケージとは何かから構築の最終段階までよく構成された議論が
なされています。また彼は、<a
href="$(HOME)/doc/debian-policy/">Debian ポリシーマニュアル</a>や、
単一の仕様書ファイルから Debian と RPM 両方のパッケージを作成するのに役立つ <a
href="http://www.ffem.org/daveb/pkgwrite/";>pkgwrite</a> ツールなど、他の
リソースへのリンクも含めています。</p>
<p><strong>Red Hat を使って Debian をインストール</strong>?
Ian Murdock さんは、<a href="http://www.progeny.com/";>Progeny</a> が Red Hat
の Anaconda インストーラを Debian に移植し、PGI (Progeny Graphical Installer)
の作業を中止した、と<a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-0310/msg01880.html";>発表しました</a>。
また、Debian と RPM ベースのディストリビューションが単一の APT
コードベースで<a
href="http://arstechnica.com/archive/news/1067056799.html";>管理でき</a>、願わくば
Debian と RPM のパッケージが共存できるよう、APT の本体に RPM
のサポートを追加すべく様々なグループとの作業を続けています。</p>
<p><strong>World Solar Challenge での Debian</strong>。
西部オーストラリアのソーラーチーム <a href="http://www.sungroper.asn.au/";>\
Sungroper</a> は、第 7 回 <a href="http://www.wsc.org.au/";>World Solar
Challenge</a> の期間中も、Yahoo の<a
href="http://www.pcchatshow.com/articles/showarticle.php?ArticleID=142";>\
unusual</a> もしくは最も遠いインターネット<a
href="http://www.sungroper.asn.au/cafe/";>カフェ</a>コンテストに参加していました。
Onno Benschop さんは、彼のワークステーション (Debian テスト版 (testing))
をゲートウェイとして起動し、世界中のチームが毎晩パラボラアンテナに群がって
自宅にメールの返信をしていました。</p>
<p><strong>Debian BTS に類するバグレポート</strong>。
Russell Coker さんは、メンテナが「上流のバグを Debian BTS のみに提出するのは、
メンテナにバグの仲介を要求するのでパッケージング作業に遅れが出る」と言って
バグをクローズしているのに<a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-0310/msg01641.html";>気づきました</a>。
しかし、Debian ユーザはそれが上流のバグであるならメンテナが上流に転送できるように
なっている Debian バグ追跡システム (BTS) にバグを報告すべきです。よって、Adrian Bunk

<p><strong>zopectl を Zope の先行依存にする</strong>。
Luca De Vitis さんは <a
href="http://packages.debian.org/zope";>zope</a> の先行依存に <a
href="http://packages.debian.org/zopectl";>zopectl</a> を加えるために、
ポリシーに則って<a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-0310/msg01850.html";>質問しました</a>。
Zope を消去する際に、ファイルの位置を見つけるのに zopectl が必要だからです。
それらのファイルの位置は設定可能なので、zopectl なしにはこれらを発見するのは
困難です。</p>
<p><strong>異なるカーネルと設定をサポート</strong>。
Mattia Dongili さんは、<a href="http://packages.debian.org/cpufreqd";>cpufreqd</a>
のデフォルトの設定をどうすればいいのか<a

cpufreqd は、バッテリの残量や電源の状態を監視し、CPU の周波数を調整する
プログラムを起動する speedstep アプレットです。カーネル 2.4 と 2.6 の主流で、
インタフェースが変更されました。Wouter Verhelst さんは、メインプロセッサの
スピードを元に計算すればよいと<a

<p><strong>Debian バグ退治パーティ</strong>。
Erik Rossen さんは、スイスのエキュブランで 2003 年 11 月 9 日の日曜日に行われる
Debian バグ退治パーティを<a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-0310/msg01911.html";>発表しました</a>。
Debian GNU/Linux ディストリビューションの 10 周年を祝って、Groupe romand des
Utilisateurs de Linux et de Logiciels Libres は 10 から 40 人のボランティアを
大きな部屋に閉じ込め、彼らが快適に作業できるよう、あらゆるコンピュータ、回線容量、
電源、ピザ、ビールを提供する予定です。</p>
<p><strong>Debian インストーラパッケージ</strong>。
Joey Hess さんは、通常の .deb と .udeb ファイルを除いて、buildd が状態を
拾えるようになった場合、debian-installer はどのようにバイナリパッケージを
作成すればよいか<a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-boot-0310/msg01291.html";>疑問に思いました</a>。
以下の二つの選択肢があるようです。一つは、Alastair さんのオリジナルの build/debian
のように全てのブートイメージを .deb ファイルに含めてしまう方法で、もう一つは、FTP
管理者が手動で処理しなければならなくなりますが、tarball を作成して正しい
ディレクトリで展開する方法です。後者が<a

<p><strong>メモリ消費の少ない Debian Installer</strong>。
Goswin von Brederlow さんは、現在の debian-installer が CDROM の udeb ファイルを
インストールするのに多くのメモリが必要なのに<a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-boot-0310/msg01295.html";>気づきました</a>。
大量のメモリを必要とするのは、16 MB やそれ以下のメモリしかないマシンを
締め出してしまいます。彼は、ループバックマウントされる巨大な initrd と ramdisk
を copy-on-write ストレージとして渡す lvm スナップショットデバイスを使うよう
提案しました。</p>
<p><strong>sid の新しい glibc</strong>。
Dan Jacobowitz さんは、glibc の TODO ファイルには何も残っていないと<a
