about the freeness of the <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/07/msg00394.html";>European
Union Public License</a>. Florian Weimer <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/07/msg00399.html";>found</a>
several flaws that would make the license incompatible with the GNU <a
href="http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html";>General Public License</a>.
Nathanael Nerode also <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/07/msg00477.html";>\
discovered</a> several problems in the draft.</p>

<p><strong>European Union Public License。</strong>

Union Public License</a> が十分にフリーかどうかについて<a

<p><strong>Debconf Dependency.</strong> Joey Hess <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/08/msg00136.html";>announced</a>
that he will eventually file bug reports on packages that only depend on <a
href="http://packages.debian.org/debconf";>debconf</a> and not on debconf-2.0
as well. The latter is needed so debconf can finally be replaced by <a
href="http://packages.debian.org/cdebconf";>cdebconf</a>. debconf-2.0 was
added to the Debian <a href="$(HOME)/doc/debian-policy/">policy</a> as a
virtual package in 2002 and has been provided by debconf since 2003.</p>

<p><strong>Debconf の依存関係。</strong>
Joey Hess さんは、ゆくゆくはバグ報告を記録する対象を、
<a href="http://packages.debian.org/debconf";>debconf</a> だけには依存するが
debconf-2.0 には依存しないようなパッケージに限定するつもりだ、と<a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/08/msg00136.html";>\
発表しました</a>。後者の条件が必要なのは、最終的に debconf を <a
href="http://packages.debian.org/cdebconf";>cdebconf</a>
で代替できるようにするためです。debconf-2.0 は 2002 年に仮想パッケージとして
Debian <a href="$(HOME)/doc/debian-policy/">ポリシー</a> に加えられ、
2003 年から debconf パッケージとして提供されています。</p>
<p><strong>Reporting List Spam.</strong> Nico Golde <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/08/msg00223.html";>asked</a> if
it is possible to report spam distributed via the <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/";>lists</a> not only via web interface but also
via mail. Javier Fernández-Sanguino Peña also <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/08/msg00246.html";>wondered</a>
what happens after a mail is reported as spam. Frans Pop <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/08/msg00250.html";>explained</a>
that currently data is only collected. The intention is to use the data both
to improve filtering and clean the archives. The set of tools for that has yet to
be developed though.</p>
<p><strong>メーリングリストスパムの報告。</strong>

<p><strong>Converting Source Code.</strong> Svante Signell <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/07/msg00410.html";>wondered</a>
how the copyright of a program is transferred when somebody manually converts
or implements it into a different language. Arnoud Engelfriet <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/07/msg00427.html";>stated</a>
that the converter only owns a copyright of the final work if the translation
required creative work. Sean Kellogg, however, <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/07/msg00457.html";>asserted</a>
that the converter would only hold a copyright on the expression that is the
translation.</p>
<p><strong>ソースコードの変換。</strong>

the successful defence of her dissertation about ethics and politics of the
Free Software movement and the availability of <a
href="http://healthhacker.org/biella/coleman-chapter-six.pdf";>chapter six</a>
which covers the Debian project. In this chapter she explained the internal
culture in the Debian project that she has investigated during several
occasions. According to <a
href="http://www.grep.be/blog/2005/08/24#coleman_chapter_six";>Wouter
Verhelst</a> she certainly has a far better view on the general picture than
most developers can ever hope to have.</p>
<p><strong>Ethical Moments in Debian.</strong>
Biella Coleman さんは、

replacement. However, it is distributed under a allegedly non-free

that if a package requires non-free software to build, it cannot go into the
main archive, regardless of the fact that the resulting binary does not
depend on non-free packages.</p>
