昨夜、むしょうに翻訳したくなったので、alien(1)をやってみました。
チェックお願いします。
1文だけ、どうしても日本語にしきれないものがありました。
「説明」の最初の段落にあります。
> A look up will then be done in /var/lib/alien/packagename*.diff.gz.
「/var/lib/alien/packagename*.diff.gzを探します」しか思い浮ばない
のですが、違うような気もします。
dpkgやdpkg-dev付属のマニュアルにも手を出したいのですが、誰か
作業中の方いますか?
とりあえず、次はdupload(1)とdupload(5)を狙ってます。
これに関してdebian-jp向けの文書がありますか? 一応、
http://www.debian.or.jp/devel/.dupload.conf
はチェックしました。

Debian パッケージを構築するためには、alien に、変換したい
パッケージ名をパラメータにして実行するだけでよい。

もし、このような差分が存在する場合、alien パッケージは
debian 化するパッケージを展開し、そしてパッチを適用する。
もし、このような差分が存在しない場合、alien はパッケージを
自動的に debian 化しようと試みる。このあと、alien は
debian バイナリパッケージを構築し、カレントディレクトリに
保存する。

.tar.gz フォーマットに注意すること。alien は単純に tar ファイルに
含まれるファイルと同じものを含んだ .deb または .rpm パッケージを
生成する。tar ファイルが、標準的な Linux ディレクトリに置かれる
プリコンパイルされたバイナリの場合のみ、きちんと動作する。
パッケージをインストールしたときにルートディレクトリに
ソースコードをインストールしたいと望まない限り、
ソースコードを含む tar ファイルに対して alien を実行しては
*いけない!*。

パッケージを構築するための一時ディレクトリを生成するが、
実際にパッケージの構築はしない。これは、パッケージを
構築する前にファイルを変更したいときに有用である。
一時ディレクトリからパッケージを構築することができる。
Debian パッケージを作成したい場合は“debian/rules binary”
を、Red Hat パッケージを作成したい場合は“rpm -bb
<パッケージ名>.spec”を実行する。
-s, --single
> Like -g, but do not generate the packagename.orig
> directory. This is only useful when you are very
> low on disk space and are generating a debian pack-
> age.
-g と似ているが、パッケージ名.orig ディレクトリを
作成しない。これはとてもディスクの空きが少ない
ときに debian パッケージを生成するときにだけ

--patch=patch
> Specify the patch to be used instead of automati-

--description=desc

description の欠けた slackware の tgz パッケージの

-c, --scripts
> Try to convert the scripts that are meant to be run
> when the package is installed and removed. Use this
> with caution, becuase these scripts might be
> designed to work on a system unlike your own, and
> could cause problems. It is reccommended that you
> examine the scripts by hand and check to see what
> they do before using this option.
パッケージをインストールする、または削除をするときに
実行するパッケージを変換しようと試みる。これを使用

-k, --keep-version
> By default, alien adds one to the minor version

alien は、異なる linux ディストリビューションとの
構成の違いを考慮しない。そのため、sysvinit などのような
essential なファイルを置き換える使い方をしてはいけない。
そのような使い方をするとシステムを破壊してしまう。
一般的にいって、システムを壊さずに essential なパッケージを
アンインストールすることができないため、alien バージョンで
置き換えようとしてはいけない。
> If alien is not run as root, the files in the generated
> package will hve incorrect owners and permissions.
もし root 以外で alien を実行すると、パッケージを
構成するファイルは誤った所有者とパーミッションに
なる。
