CatDVIを使ったことないし、英語も苦手なので、かなり勘ですが。

CatDVIは、dvi形式のファイルから普通のテキストに変換する、というか
テキスト部分を抽出するプログラムのようです。

で、上に書いてあるのは、普通のテキストで表現できる範囲内で、
できるだけオリジナルのレイアウトに似せるよ、という意味じゃない
でしょうか。
