さっそく試してみました。
以下はpppconfig のダイヤログです。メーラの関係で支障のない
範囲の編集をしてあります。

上記ログの状況は、モデムの電源が入っていても切れていても
変わりありません。モデムのSD/RDランプもまったく点滅して
いないようです。モデムはNEC COMSTARZ MULTI 560 II という
もので、ケーブルはモデムに付属のものを使用しております。
