で FreeType 関連 ML について GPL とか license conflict とか
そのへんで検索したら、どうもこれ↓

    o You may not pretend that  you wrote this software.  If you use
      it, or  only parts of it,  in a program,  you must acknowledge
      somewhere  in  your  documentation  that  you  have  used  the
      FreeType code. (`credits')

つまり documentatino への acknowledgement の義務が GPL と衝突すると
して問題にされているようです。

 (なんだかなぁ、という気がしないでもない)

 2000 年の 11-12 月くらいに ML 上で話題になっていたようです。
