Debianのオフィシャルホームページで探して来た
xserver-rage128_0.990906-4.deb
をインストールしてみて、
ドキュメント付属のドキュメントを参考に
mv /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_SVGA /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_SVGA.org
などとして
mv /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_Rage128 /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_SVGA
として startx &> xlog したものが以下になります。

XF86Configファイルも、手で修正したりXF86Setupを使用したりxf86config
スクリプトを使用したりして作って試しているのですが、今の私の知識では
かなり難しいです。
で、小渡さんの

を見て、XFree86 4.0.2にupgradeという方法に一番魅力を感じています。
XF86Config-4ファイルも、RedHat Linux 7 (XFree86 4.0.1) で
インストール時にうまく設定したものを使い回せばそのままいけるような
気がするので…。
もちろん3.3.6ベースには全くこだわっていません。

本当に皆様ありがとうございます。
今しばらくはもう少し3.3.6の環境であがいてみて、どうしてもだめなら
4.0.xにバージョンアップしてみるつもりです。

…ちなみに小渡さんはソースから4.0.2環境を構築されたのでしょうか?
  debianのSITEを見てみたところ、
  xfree86-common_4.0.2-1_all.deb
  なるものを発見しました。
  どうもテストバージョンのようですが、これを使うとよいのでしょうか?
  バージョンアップの方法がイマイチよく分からなかったりするので、
  現在Webで調べ中です。。。
