樋村です。これが初投稿になります、宜しくお願いします。

INSTALLファイルに、

  5) Run the './snddevices' script to create new sound devices in /dev directory.
   Skip this step, if you have a kernel with the DEVFS support.

と、ありますから、
devfsを使っていらっしゃるなら、./snddevices を実行する必要はないのでは？

確か、alsa-base を入れると devfs 関係の設定も行われるはずですが…。
私の場合、devfsd を入れる前に、alsa-base を入れてしまったので
# dpkg-reconfigure alsa-base
としてその後 modutils を設定して解決しましたが…。
