[debian-users:36271] help: status monitoring fails with canonF900 using bjfilter on debian

Dear Members!

Recently I installed Canon's bjfilterbjf900-2.1-0.i386.rpm onto my
debian unstable (kernel 2.4.21-pre4)...

1. extraced the files from the rpm
2. moved (rpm)usr/lib to /usr/local/lib
3. symlinked all the .so to versionless names
4. moved (rpm)usr/local/* to /usr/local

I could successfully print images using
----------
~#cat test.png | bjfilterbjf900 --gui --display :0>/dev/usb/lp0
----------

However printing with
----------
~#bjf900_ps test.ps>/dev/usb/lp0
----------
as suggested by the guidebjf900-2.1-0.tar.gz yields a "Canon BJF900
Status Monitor" window with "Printer not responding message".
I must be doing something wrong...

Could anyone help me getting it right please?

Respectfully,
Daniel Nagy
