News/weekly/2005/25/index.wml の訳が終わりましたので、
査読をお願いいたします。
今回もいまいさんとの合作? です。
自分のところについてのみになりますが、
気になる点をいくつか挙げておきます。
* [legacy]
* 元記事の日本語訳が
http://japan.linux.com/desktop/05/06/15/0226221.shtml
にあるので、タイトルなどそれを参考にしているところがあります。
それに合わせ、ファイルのヘッダの部分 (http://www.debian.org/News/weekly/ に
使われる用語のリスト) の「legacy」も「受け継ぐものたち」と訳してあります。
* 無生物主語の文ばかりなので、それを意識して訳しているつもりです。
* ……が、最後の文はやや不自然かもしれません。
* 「... to be reckoned with」は直訳すると「考慮に入れるべき〜」などとなるで
しょうが、上のページにあった訳「無視できない〜」がうまくはまっていたので、
それを流用させていただきました。
* [menu] 第一文の「sarge on which packages may now depend」を素直に訳すことは
できるのですが、「packages」が指すものや、sarge に「depend on」するという意味
があまりよく分かっていません……。

<p>Welcome to this year's 25th issue of DWN, the weekly newsletter for the
Debian community. Jordi Mallach <a
href="http://oskuro.net/blog/freesoftware/gnome-2.10-unstable-2005-06-14-21-01";>\
reported</a> that the GNOME team has completed all uploads needed to bring
GNOME 2.10.1 into unstable. With the presence at this year's LinuxTag and the
first sarge DVD after the release this will become a hectic week for European
Debian people.</p>

さんは、GNOME チームが GNOME 2.10.1 を不安定版 (unstable)

<p><strong>Woody to Sarge Upgrades.</strong> Bill Allombert <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/06/msg00006.html";>\
summarised</a> the major problems people have reported in upgrade reports.
Circular dependencies in woody and the dependency of <code>apt-get</code> and
<a href="http://packages.debian.org/aptitude";>aptitude</a> on C++ seem to be
the most problematic ones. There are far too many packages that alter
configuration files for which <code>dpkg</code> requires approval before
overwriting them.</p>
<p><strong>Woody から Sarge へのアップグレード。</strong>

<p><strong>The Debian Legacy.</strong> Nick Myra <a
href="http://os.newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=05/06/13/1430228";>reported</a>
about the sarge release and that Debian's popularity has inspired dozens of
variants, many of them run directly from CD. Knoppix and its derivatives have
encouraged the current growth in GNU/Linux users. Debian helps show that
GNU/Linux and its broader social, political, and economical implications are a
force to be reckoned with.</p>
<p><strong>Debian を受け継ぐものたち。</strong>
Nick Myra さんは、sarge がリリースしたこと、また Debian
の人気のためこれまでに多数の変種が作成されており、その多くが CD
から直接起動できることを、<a

<p><strong>SELinux and BSD Ports.</strong> Aurelien Jarno <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/06/msg00012.html";>\
reported</a> about problems for the BSD ports of Debian with the integration
of SELinux support to regular packages. Since SELinux is Linux-specific
these patches won't work on the BSD ports and the Hurd. He added a code
snippet that adds proper support for <a
href="http://packages.debian.org/libselinux1";>libselinux1</a>.</p>
<p><strong>SELinux と BSD 移植版。</strong>

preparations of sarge on which packages may now depend. Translations of menu
sections, different character sets and XDG menus are now supported. He also
asked developers to let the menu item start with a capital letter and to move
menu files to <code>/usr/share</code> in order to support the <a
href="http://www.pathname.com/fhs/";>Filesystem Hierarchy Standard</a>.</p>

href="http://www.linuxdevices.com/articles/AT4036830962.html";>market
survey</a> reported that Debian was the most popular distribution. The
OpenEmbedded project appears to be a notable up-and-comer. It began as the <a
href="http://linuxdevices.com/links/LK3443415155.html";>OpenZaurus</a> project,
and then evolved into a cross-platform build system supporting a wide variety
of embedded targets.</p>

<p><strong>Debian Project on Tour.</strong> The Debian project <a
href="$(HOME)/News/2005/20050617">announced</a> its presence at the <a
href="$(HOME)/events/2005/0620-oss2005">OSS Symposium</a> for business and
public administration in Ostfildern, Germany, at this year's <a
href="$(HOME)/events/2005/0622-linuxtag">LinuxTag</a> and at the fifth <a
href="$(HOME)/events/2005/0710-debconf">Debian Conference</a> in Helsinki,
Finland. The finalised <a
href="http://www.infodrom.org/Debian/events/LinuxTag2005/day.html";>schedule</a>
of Debian related talks during <a href="http://www.linuxtag.org/";>LinuxTag</a>
contains archive descriptions, sub-projects, detailed use cases, porting and
a lot more.</p>

<p><strong>Javi's Etch Wishlist.</strong> Javier Fernández-Sanguino Peña <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/06/msg00462.html";>outlined</a>
wishlist items for the next Debian release. The list contains several
improvements into a more security hardened system, rollback mechanism for
upgrades, an alternate boot system, the switch to <a
href="http://packages.debian.org/xinetd";>xinetd</a>, the need for better
documentation, improved package search and tracking mechanisms and much
more.</p>
<p><strong>Javi さんの etch に対する希望リスト。</strong>
Javier Fernández-Sanguino Peña さんは、次期 Debian
リリースに希望する項目のリストの<a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/06/msg00462.html";>概要を説明しました</a>。

that the switch to a new architecture of PostgreSQL packages is being
implemented now. The new structure is a lot easier to maintain and also
offers many new <a href="http://people.debian.org/~mpitt/postgresql-ng.html";>\
features</a> for users. All packages that formerly depended on
<code>postgresql-dev</code> need to be altered and uploaded again.</p>
<p><strong>PostgreSQL の移行。</strong>

announced</a> a mini Debian conference taking place on October in Osaka,
Japan. He already organised a Debian birds of a feather session at the Kansai
OpenSource conference. At least some talks will be given in English.</p>
