(場合によってはプログラムサイズなどが小さいと読めなくもないので)
何が小さいのかはっきりするためにどこかで「バージョン番号」とか
「バージョンナンバー」とした方が良いのではと思いました。
＃ 原文では "a lower version number" と number が入ってますし。
