<p>Welcome to this year's 20th issue of DWN, the weekly newsletter for the
Debian community.  In an <a
href="http://www.linux.com/article.pl?sid=06/04/11/1818237";>interview</a>,
Anthony Towns stated that the immediate plan is to organise the ideas he had
during project leader campaigning and that the people who volunteered to help
don't go away without some good ideas about extra things they can do.</p>

<p><strong>Web-Interface for Preseeding.</strong>
A new <a href="http://instalinux.com/";>website</a> developed by open
source enthusiasts based on code released by Hewlett Packard allows
users to point and click through a few simple screens to generate a
small (less than 30&nbsp;MB) installation image.  When booted, it will
install an operating system via the network according to the user's
specifications.  Debian, Ubuntu and KUbuntu are all supported on x86
and x86_64 platforms, as well as several other distributions.</p>

<p><strong>preseed 用のウェブインターフェイス。</strong>
ヒューレット・パッカード社がリリースしたコードを元に、オープンソースに
熱中する人々が開発した新しい<a href="http://instalinux.com/";>ウェブサイト</a>
により、ユーザは数も少ないシンプルな画面上で選択し、クリックするだけで、

<p><strong>Multiarch Status Update.</strong> Matt Taggart <a
href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/05/msg00290.html";>pointed
out</a> a <a
href="http://multiarch.alioth.debian.org/multiarch-hp-report.pdf";>report</a>
by Canonical Ltd. and HP which investigates potential implementation
strategies of multiarch in Debian.  Scott James Remnant
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/05/msg00290.html";>\
prepared</a> a <a
href="http://multiarch.alioth.debian.org/dpkg2.pdf";>specification</a>
for the changes needed in <a href="http://packages.debian.org/dpkg";>dpkg</a>.
Multiarch will allow Debian many
improvements like a better support for systems that can run multiple
binary targets, like i386 on amd64, or i386 on ia64.</p>

href="http://multiarch.alioth.debian.org/multiarch-hp-report.pdf";>レポート</a>
の存在を<a

しました</a>。同レポートは、Debian に multiarch を実装するための可能な
戦略について調査したものです。Scott James Remnant さんは、
<a href="http://packages.debian.org/dpkg";>dpkg</a> の要修正点の<a
href="http://multiarch.alioth.debian.org/dpkg2.pdf";>仕様</a>について
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/05/msg00290.html";>\
準備しました</a>。amd64 上で i386 用バイナリを、あるいは ia64 上で
i386 用バイナリを実行するような、複数のバイナリターゲットを実行できる
システムへの対応が向上するなど、multiarch によって Debian は数多くの
改良が可能になります。</p>

<p><strong>Incremental Package Information Updates.</strong> Bartosz Fenski <a
href="http://jabba.pl/fEnIo/id/9350";>reported</a> that the new version 0.6.44
of <a href="http://packages.debian.org/unstable/admin/apt";>apt</a> has been
<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-changes/2006/05/msg00542.html";>\
uploaded</a> to the <a href="$(HOME)/releases/unstable/">unstable</a>
distribution which supports incremental updates of the
packages database.  With this version of apt the amount of data that has
to be downloaded has drastically decreased from four or five megabytes
down to a few hundred kilobytes by every run of "apt-get update".</p>

<p><strong>パッケージ情報の差分アップデート。</strong>
Bartosz Fenski さんは、<a href="http://packages.debian.org/unstable/admin/apt";>apt</a>
の新バージョンである 0.6.44 が<a href="$(HOME)/releases/unstable/">不安定版</a>
ディストリビューションに
