趣味の問題ですが、私はこちらのほうが良いと思います。

* XXX decided also switching to it for its desktop computers
  -> XXX はデスクトップコンピュータも入れ替えました。
  => XXX はデスクトップコンピュータでもオープンソースソフトウェアを利用することにしました。

「入れ替えた」だけだと「オープンソフトウェアを使うことにした」
という意味が読み取れるか心配なので元記事の表現を使ってみました。

* because of the lower costs, [it] results in a more sustainable IT infrastructure.
  -> 低コストにより、結果としてより継続可能な IT インフラストラクチャなのです
  => IT ソリューションに掛かるコストがより低く抑えられることで、より継続可能な
     IT インフラストラクチャが可能になったのです。

冗長になりますが the の示す内容を明示して、
result in XXX を XXX が可能になったと訳してみました。

いかがでしょうか。
