rxvtメインテナのBrian Mayとメールでやりとりしてます。
普通のrxvtの他にrxvt-multilingualみたいなものを作ってくれてます。
で、質問されました。

I have one other concern.  Apparently it has been customary to add a "k"
to the beginning of the program name if it has been modified to use kanji
and a "c" if it has been modified to use Chinese big5.  For example, xterm
becomes kterm and the xcin package contains a crxvt program.  Do you think
that the multi-lingual versions of rxvt should be named krxvt, crxvt,
and grxvt, instead of rxvt-kanji, rxvt-zh, and rxvt-greek?  The former
names are shorter and more consistent with traditional naming schemes,
but the latter are more descriptive.  Please let me know what you think.

私としては、krxvtなんてちょっとダサいし、今の彼のパッケージだと後者で、
/etc/alternatives/rxvt が rxvt-kanji を指すようになっているので
後者のほうがいいと思います。みなさまの意見はいかがでしょうか？

でもソースのconfig.h には

/* Define if you want KANJI support */
/* after compilation, rename executable as kxvt' */
#define KANJI 1

/* Define if you want chinese support */
/* after compilation, rename executable as crxvt' */
/* #undef ZH */

なんて書いてあるんですよ。作者の意向を尊重すれば前者かな。
