Is there a good reason why you're forking a new package, instead of asking
the patch to be integrated in the standard Debian package?

 gs に対する JP パッチで一番重要なのは、kanji font 関係の拡張かと
思うのですが、これって Debian package の gs にマージしてもらえる
可能性ってあると思われます ? (> all)

 gs 5.10-2 の changelog を見ると

gs (5.10-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Added support for hp8xx drivers by Uli Wortmann (closes Bug#40807).
  * Added support for epsf and ttfont features.
  * Changed "Aladdin Ghostscript" into "GNU Ghostscript" in 
    file stcolor.ps e stcinfo.ps (closed Bug#35411, Bug#35525).

gs (5.10-1) unstable frozen; urgency=low

  * Ghostscript 5.10 is GPL! 
    This package essentially corresponds to package gs-aladdin_5.10-12,
    but redistributed under GPL. Changes w.r.t. gs-aladdin_5.10-12
    are:
      * Corrected "regulamentations" --> "regulations" 
        in description of package.
      * Filenames in script pdf2ps are now enclosed in double quotes
      * Fixed the manpages for bdftops, printafm and wftopfa, 
        so that they work with apropos.
    The various patches to ghostscript 5.10 that have been proposed
    by L.P.Deutsch and that appear in gs-aladdin_5.10-12 also appear
    in this package.

などと書いてあって、 ttfont support を取り入れたりしているようですが、
これは gs_ttf.ps というファイルと関係があるのかな ? VFlib とは関係
無さそうだし、freetype とも関係無さそう。

とりあえず

Because I put the priority on User's request more than on Debian's
inner problem. The i18n patch for man-db has not been merged for 
more than several months. Current man-db can not be used for viewing
the manpages-ja, and it WAS registered at BTS of Debian, but currently
that bug has not been closed.

So I think to meet the request from our users, I upload the new package.
When the merge will be completed, I may remove JP-only package.

Now potato is going to be freezed and we don't have the time to waste
in discussion. Our user needs, and we will respond that request.

This is the reason. If YOU can help us to persuade the each maintainer
to merge the patches our user needs, I don't feel the necessity of forking.

I hope that there will be no need to fork new packages-ja, 
but it will be in the future.

などという返事を送ってしまいましたので ^^;; 予定通り gs-ja は
 potato に upload しようと考えていますが、その先 (potato 以降) は
どうするのがいいのかな、と。
