[Debian Weekly News Draft1] Debian JP News 1999/10/12 - 1999/10/18

JP Merge Operation (continued)
JP QA team have just started the work about the rest JP packages under
the leadership of Fumitoshi UKAI, the Debian JP project leader. jp-qa
ML is ready for this work. The reported items are listed on the below.
* QVWM, the window manager have windows95 look and feel contains
different sentences between English and Japanese license.
* NMU intent to ish by Masayuki Hatta
* prn, PS tools for ja_JP.EUC text (need kcc). W: prn source:
ancient-standards-version 2.1.1.0
So, sorry for that, jp-qa web archive is not yet prepared now.
Emacs20 Japanized patch treatment discussion is [4]raised by ISHIKAWA
Mutsumi. Yes, Emacs20 can use Japanese characters well, however, we
have some 'unofficial' JP patches already rejected by FSF. These
patches are written for several Japanese input method like canna.
These functions are not merged to Emacs20 from Mule, the multi-lingual
version of Emacs19. And from this historical reason, not a quite few
people in Japan need these solution to use Emacs20 for their own use.
Taketoshi Sano reports:
* Japanese po file for boot-floppies[5] put into cvs by Keita
Maehara.
* [6]The recent situation about new-maintainer discussion at
debian-devel@lists.debian.org.
* man-db-ja have been [7]successfully merged into man-db.

Discussion on the ML at Debian.or.jp
Ncurses Japanese code treatment [9]question and answer. We have three
main encode character set that is called EUC, JIS and SJIS for one
Japanese language. Usually, EUC code is used on UNIX machine, but
sometimes we have confused what character is right to use. In email,
we are using JIS.
The way to IP Masquerade [10]setting results is posted to
debian-users. He reported he could enjoy diablo by connecting
battle.net at last:) He also indicates the errata of JF documentation,
mainly the translation of LDP, and the translator of IP masquerade
Mini HOWTO responded that he will contact to the upstream LDP author.
SKK, the famous and enthusiastic Japanese input method (Yes, we
sometimes have strong feeling about the way to input mother tongue!).
The sales points of SKK10 are [11]announced by Takao KAWAMURA, one of
Debian developer. He said no JP Linux distribution contains such a
newest function of SKK10.
IBM software, called 'King of Translation' [12]test report is posted
to -users. Usable from command line and XEmacs, but not usable on the
browser. The installation report is also [13]available (Japanese).
