　蛇足かつ重箱の隅ですけど、英文解釈風に分解してみましょう。

　まず大きな構造は

It is a good idea -- to keep track of...
                  \- to use this information to...

なので、

「(to keep track...) することと、(to use this information to...)
　することは、良い考えです」

ですね。

　前半の which version of the original... 以下は、

A certain translation refers to SOME version of the original

の SOME を問う間接疑問文 (っていうんだっけ?) ですから、
「ある翻訳がオリジナルのどのバージョンを参照しているか」
ということになります。
