当方現在は Debian を使用していないので、間違っていたらすみません。

上記の本が発売された時点では、sarge が testing でしたが、
現在は etch になっており、sarge は stable です。

/etc/apt/sources.list の、testing を sarge に書き換えて
apt-get update を実行してみたらどうでしょうか。
