そうですね。原文だけでは意味がよく分かりませんでした。

ほかにも

『gross a. 1 はなはだしい, 著しい, ひどい<間違いなど>』

なんてのがありますね。
big の意味にも引っかけて「ひどい」くらいでいいんじゃないでしょうか。
