ちゃんと見ておかなければと思っています。

最近 ちょっと Wichert Akkerman design & Joey Hess implementation の 
debconf を見てるんですが、現状でざっと説明すると

spec は http://www.debian.org/~wakkerma/config6/ 

dpkg の info として templates, mappings をいれておいて
その情報を元に configuration database を処理する

dpkg-preconfig(1) でその情報のとりだし
dpkg-frontend(1) で ユーザへのプロンプトを実行
もしくは ConfModule.pm を使って postinst などで処理する

class構成
 FrontEnd として 
    Base		基本class
      Dialog		/usr/bin/whiptail 
			-> /usr/bin/dialog
			-> /usr/bin/gdialog の順でtry
      Line		Term::ReadLine
      Web		Web Serverになり任意のWeb clientをUIにつかう

 Element
    Base 
      Input		入力フィールド用 boolean, select, text がある
      Note		Dialog的情報表示
      Text		テキスト表示
    それぞれ FrontEnd毎の class がある

 ConfigDb
    Database backend 	spec的にはいろいろbackendにつかえる仕様だが
			現状は Data::Dumper による perl的 i/o のみ

 Template	template fileの処理
 Mapping	mappings fileの処理
 Priority	low, medium, high, critical の 4 つの priority がある
 Question	FrontEndをつかってユーザに聞くためのもの

sampleとして
  demo, cvs, exim, slrn 用の config,mappings,templates がある

apt との連携もすすめられているらしい
 apt 0.3.11-0.1 にその修正がはいっている
 apt.conf で DPkg::Pre-Install-Pkgs をつかって dpkg-preconfig している

主に debconf に関する discussion は irc.debian.org 系の #debian-devel  
で行なわれている。

なお、templates の spec的にも、またfrontend の実装も i18n が
あまり考えられていないようなのでどうするのがいいか考慮中。

そもそも Dialog系(whiptail, dialog, gdialog)での表示とか
perlのTerm::ReadLine の入力とか日本語大丈夫なんでしょうか?
# まぁ 日本語を入力することはまだあまりないので入力は後回しでいいかも(?) 

… ってこういう話は -users でやる話かなぁ という気がしてきた(笑)
