The preferred document format for the GNU system is the Texinfo
formatting language. Every GNU package should (ideally) have
documentation in Texinfo both for reference and for learners. Texinfo
makes it possible to produce a good quality formatted book, using TeX,
and to generate an Info file. It is also possible to generate HTML
output from Texinfo source. See the Texinfo manual, either the
hardcopy, or the on-line version available through info or the Emacs
Info subsystem (C-h i).

Nowadays some other formats such as Docbook and Sgmltexi can be
converted automatically into Texinfo.  It is ok to produce the Texinfo
documentation by conversion this way, as long as it gives good
results.

  GNU Document は参照目的の他にチュートリアルも含めることを必須として
いるので、man ページにしてしまうと平板に長くなりすぎて読みにくいと思い
ます。

  自分が info に対して不満があるとすれば、検索などでページを飛んでしまっ
た場合などに、自分がどの項目にいるのか把握するのが難しいということです。
すぐに迷子になる! 画面上部に表示されているノードの名前と章の名前が一致
しているわけではないし。

  マイクロソフトの開発環境のヘルプシステム(内容の質はおいておいて :-) 
はなかなかよいんじゃないでしょうか。文書構造を示すツリーが表示され、必
要でなければ閉じておけるし、切り離すこともできる…。info ファイル自体
はそのままにこういうブラウザが作れたら(Emacs上だったらなおよし)いいな
あなどと夢見ております。
