そして、訳語の不統一はおそらく *すでに* ユーザに混乱を与えて
いるだろう、ということを考えると、今後さらに新たな訳を考案
することは得策ではないと思います。おそらく、現時点で新たな
統一訳を考案したとしても、各方面ですでに使われている訳語を
すべて新たな訳に変更しつくす、ということはもはやできないと
思うので、かりにそういうことがあってもダメージが小さくなる
ようにしなければならないとも思います。

ですので、原語を直訳した「不安定版」を推します。(もちろん、
stable と testing も直訳する、という前提で。testing ですが、
「試験版」とすると、一部ですでに使われている unstable の
訳である「実験版」と似ていてまぎらわしい (特に、今後しばらくは
testing と unstable に対する複数の訳が混在してしまうだろう、
という現状に照らしたとき、混同の危険性はより大きいのでは
ないかと思います) ので、「テスト版」を推します)。

www.debian.or.jp の下のほうに、stable/unstable/testing の
説明がありますが、そこに、「従来は xxx という訳語が使われて
きたけど、yyy に変更しました。もし www.debian.or.jp や
その他のメディア (書籍など) で xxx という語を見たときは、
yyy と同じ意味だと考えてください」という注意書きが必要に
なることと思います。
